AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATION
Defibrillators are now commonplace in shopping malls, leisure centres
and sports clubs around the UK. This 6 hour course, as recommended
by the European Resuscitation Council, is vital if you have such a unit
and may be called upon to deal with a sudden cardiac arrest. This
course includes resuscitation, health and safety and practical aspects of
using a defibrillator. |

Course Details:
Overview
In line with
the Governments initiative, Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)
are becoming more widely available, particularly in places where
people gather, such as shopping centres, railway stations, airports
and large workplaces. This one day programme is designed to
instruct those wishing to use the AED in their workplace.
There are no pre-requisites for those wishing to take the course.

Objectives
The trainee will be able to demonstrate safe
and appropriate practice when using an AED in accordance with
Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines. This includes:
- Describing ventricular fibrillation and its
significance
- Explaining defibrillation
- Explaining the importance of early
defibrillation
- Identifying when an AED should be used
- Describing the maintenance requirements of an
AED
- Describing what records should be kept
Assessment
A certificate of
competence will be issued to all successful delegates. The
certificate is valid for 12 months.
