AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATION

Defibrillators are now commonplace in shopping malls, leisure centres and sports clubs around the UK.  This 6 hour course, as recommended by the European Resuscitation Council, is vital if you have such a unit and may be called upon to deal with a sudden cardiac arrest.  This course includes resuscitation, health and safety and practical aspects of using a defibrillator.

Overview

In line with the Governments initiative, Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are becoming more widely available, particularly in places where people gather, such as shopping centres, railway stations, airports and large workplaces.  This one day programme is designed to instruct those wishing to use the AED in their workplace.  There are no pre-requisites for those wishing to take the course.

  • First Aid and CPR
    • Briefing on the necessity for de-fibrillation
    • Basic heart function and cardio-vascular system
    • Practical CPR
  • Use of AED
    • Introduction to AED and how it works
    • Safety precautions
    • Using the AED
    • Practical CPR and AED session

Objectives

The trainee will be able to demonstrate safe and appropriate practice when using an AED in accordance with Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines. This includes:

  • Describing ventricular fibrillation and its significance
  • Explaining defibrillation
  • Explaining the importance of early defibrillation
  • Identifying when an AED should be used
  • Describing the maintenance requirements of an AED
  • Describing what records should be kept

Assessment

A certificate of competence will be issued to all successful delegates.  The certificate is valid for 12 months.

Per Delegate £55.00 Costs are per delegate and include a personal reference manual and certification for 12 months (subject to a 2 hour refresher session after 6 months.).
